Class 1 Miss Wellock

Welcome to Class One!

The adults working in Class One are Miss Wellock and Mrs Armitage, we work as a team so please come and speak to either one of us if you have any questions. On Monday mornings the children will be taught by Mrs Hall.

This year is your child's first year in Key Stage One and we have lots of new and exciting things to learn- I know that we will have lots of fun throughout the year!

Autumn One

This half term our topic is 'Castles and Knights' and we will be learning all about what life used to be like in a castle. We will be finding out the answers to questions such as "Who lived in a castle?", "What different jobs were there?" and "Where were castles built and why?"

Miss Wellock is especially excited for the medieval banquet!

Have you ever been to a castle? Do you have a photograph- if so we'd love to see it!

In science we will be exploring materials and their properties, through investigation we will discover which materials are waterproof.

In RE we will be learning about Christianity with a focus upon the Church, we will be visiting some local churches to look at their similarities and differences.

In PE we will be learning a medieval dance and also working on agility in gymnastics.

In SEAL we will be thinking about 'new beginnings' and we will share our feelings about starting a new class. What are you excited about? Is there anything which is worrying you?

During DT and Art lessons we will be learning some basic sewing skills and also creating some pictures using a range of different media such as paint, pastel and collage.

Reading...is the key!

Please continue to listen to your child read at home and record in their reading diary each time. We will listen to your child read once a week in school and will change their books when we do so. If you'd like to change them inbetween, you can do so in the Key stage one library.
