Welcome to class 9!! Our teacher is Miss Loftus and she is supported by Mrs Walshaw. Year 6 is an important year and we need to work extremely hard but Miss Loftus will make sure we have lots of opportunities for fun too
Our timetable is jam packed with subjects such as maths, grammar, literacy, topic, computing, science, RE, music, PSHE and PE. We will go on many trips throughout the year. The first one is a trip to 'The Deep' to support our learning in our first topic 'The Sea'. We will take a trip to 'Crucial Crew' in November where we learn to keep ourselves safe out about in the community as we look to start High School. We will attend the Y6 residential to Winmarleigh for a week in February and Miss Loftus will take us to lots of sports competitions throughout the year. Keep an eye out here for lots of photos!
We will also take part in the Archbishop of York Young Leaders Award this year which will be the third year that the Y6's at Summer Lane have taken part. Later in the year we will have our SATs in May and then our Y6 leaver's concert and prom before making the transition to High School.
As we are now in Year 6, Miss Loftus will expect us to grow in independence and ensure we are responsible for ourselves. This includes dealing with letters, getting into class on time, bringing the correct equipment (including PE kit) and generally behaving in a more mature way preparing ourselves for this time next year!
Miss Loftus and Mrs Walshaw are very excited for this coming year and cannot wait to get started.
PE - PE will be on Wednesday and Fridays. Both indoor and outdoor kit will be required on these days. This should consist of black shorts and a plain white t-shirt for indoor PE and trainers, joggers and fleece/hoody for outdoor PE.
Homework - Homework will be handed out in maths and literacy on a Friday and will be expected back the following Friday. Spellings are crucial and will be handed out on a Wednesay and tested the following Wednesday.
Reading - You will be expected to read at home as much as possible. Preferably 5 days out of 7. We will be taking part in the Accelerated Reading Programme and you will be expected to join in by reading at home and quizzing at school. I will be checking
Letters - You will receive lots of important letters during your time in Y6 including ones about trips, photos, key events and most importantly, High School. You are responsible for taking these home and for returning them to school.
Fun - Most importantly this is a reminder to work hard but have fun during Year 6!!!
