Class 6 - Mrs Murray/Miss Hattersley

Hello and welcome to Class 6!

We are a Year 4 class of 31 children.  Our teachers are Mrs Murray (Monday to Wednesday a.m.) and Miss Hattersley (Wednesday to Friday). We are supported by Mrs Bates.

This term our topic is The Romans and we will be learning about how the Romans came to Britain nearly 2000 years ago and changed our country.

Our literacy work will also be linked to the Romans; the children will be reading 'Escape from Pompeii' by Christina Balit and writing setting descriptions and diary extracts about the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, which completely destroyed the busy, beautiful Roman city of Pompeii.

As part of their non-fiction writing the children will be learning all about The Romans in Britain and writing a non-chronological report.

This half term our science topic is Living things and their habitats. Science will be taught weekly and each child has been given a Knowledge Organiser to take home. This is to support key knowledge and vocabulary that will be taught throughout the unit.

P.E Information

P.E Days - Wednesday and Friday (p.m.)

Indoor P.E kit - black shorts and a plain white t-shirt.

Outdoor P.E kit - black tracksuit bottoms / leggings with a white t-shirt, trainers and a fleece / hoodie when the weather is cold.

Please put your names in your clothing to avoid a mountain of lost property!

Also, please take out any earrings and tie long hair back for health and safety reasons. Adults in school cannot help a child with their earrings!

Homework

Homework will be given out on Friday and should be returned by Wednesday.  It will consist of a piece of maths linked to the work done in lessons and a reading comprehension.  Weekly spellings will also be given out to learn; spelling tests will be on a Wednesday.
