Y6 is well and truly underway. The children are working hard in all areas of the curriculum, particularly maths, grammar and literacy on the build up to their SATs. However, we still enjoy our PE, science and art lessons very much and the children show lots of enthusiasm in these areas.
We have already been on many trips including 'The Deep', 'Crucial Crew' and most recently, our residential to Winmarleigh. The photos of this amazing trip are below!
The children are also well underway with their Archbishop of York Young Leaders Award this year which you can follow on our school Twitter page.
Independence remains a high priority in Y6. Miss Loftus and Mrs Walshaw are trying to encourage all the children to be more independent at any given opportunity.
We look forward to see what the second half of the year (and the children's final few terms at Summer Lane) will bring!
PE - PE will be on Wednesday and Fridays. Both indoor and outdoor kit will be required on these days. This should consist of black shorts and a plain white t-shirt for indoor PE and trainers, joggers and fleece/hoody for outdoor PE.
Homework - Homework will be handed out in maths and literacy on a Friday and will be expected back the following Friday. Spellings are crucial and will be handed out on a Wednesay and tested the following Wednesday.
Reading - You will be expected to read at home as much as possible. Preferably 5 days out of 7. We will be taking part in the Accelerated Reading Programme and you will be expected to join in by reading at home and quizzing at school. I will be checking
Letters - You will receive lots of important letters during your time in Y6 including ones about trips, photos, key events and most importantly, High School. You are responsible for taking these home and for returning them to school.
Fun - Most importantly this is a reminder to work hard but have fun during Year 6!!!
