At Summer Lane, we pride ourselves on our democratic roles within school. We have a range of roles in which pupils lead and support pupils across school. These include: sports leaders, librarians, reading ambassadors, eco committee, curriculum ambassadors and school council. For all these roles, pupils have to apply and state why they think they would be suitable candidates for the role. They are actively involved in developments for whole school including: being part of the interview process for new members of staff; surveying school sports and purchasing new equipment then running sports for all; supporting younger pupils develop their reading ability and leading staff meetings for other schools locally to explain our curriculum approach.

Peer Wellbeing Champions
As part of our continued drive to support all pupils’ and staff wellbeing, our wellbeing working party have designated some pupil roles within school. These pupils meet with our working party regularly to discuss ways we can ensure everyone at Summer Lane’s wellbeing is paramount importance and that we are doing all we can to ensure everyone feels safe and valued in our team.
School Council
We are Summer Lane’s new School Council for 2025-26. We look forward to working with school to ensure we recruit the right people, support our staff and pupils with mental health and be a big part of all decisions in school.
Play Leaders
At Summer Lane, we have play leaders who lead team games and share skills with a range of pupils. They work alongside BFC and Team Activ to develop their skills in all areas and learn how to work with all pupils in a range of sports.
Eco Committee
Mrs Parr leads the pupil Eco- Committee who are determined to support our school be closer to carbon neutral and recycle as much as possible.
School Ambassadors
In Summer Lane, we have a range of pupil ambassadors: reading, curriculum and play. These pupils were all asked to apply for their roles and show why they would be passionate in their drive to support others increase their abilities in this area. The reading ambassadors take year one pupils daily to read and practice speed sounds to help them improve their phonics ability; the curriculum ambassadors take part in judging display competitions for staff each term, hold staff meetings and share information with our local academy committee too; the play leaders have external training to ensure they are delivering the best sports practice/games ideas to a range of pupils across school each day.

At Summer Lane, we have a cross section of pupils who lead on Curriculum across school. We prioritise pupil input and ensure pupils are involved in a range of curriculum aspects. Maths Ambassadors
Our Maths leader, Mr McClure, has worked with a range of pupils across school in developing the role of Maths ambassadors. These pupils will eventually run their own Maths club at lunchtimes and be in charge of supporting pupils around school to develop key skills such as times tables and number bond knowledge. He will work with them to ensure the best possible Maths provision is on offer to the pupils of Summer Lane. Here are our ambassadors:
