KS1 & 2
Our Vision:
We aim to inspire our children by providing a curriculum that is creative, that responds and
enables children to lead their own learning; that equips them with the skills required for the 21st
Century, for example, problem solving, higher order thinking skills, team work and co-operation.
At Summer Lane Primary School, our curriculum is balanced and broadly based which
promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of all pupils. It also
prepares them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life.

If you would like to find out more about the curriculum we teach at school, please speak to your child's class teacher or a member of staff.
Summer Lane Primary School Curriculum is very successful by employing the following:
- Topic themed approach ~ that is, as far as possible, strong links are made between the
- topic and each discrete subject area; therefore making it more meaningful for the children.
- Trips and Visits ~ each topic is enhanced by a ‘hook’ which could take the form of a visit in order to provide children with first hand experiences, a visitor, or even a theme day within school.
- Read Write Inc~ is taught explicitly in Key Stage 1 and as needed in Key Stage 2
