Class 2- Mrs Butler

A message from Mrs Butler !

Message from Mrs Butler 29.3.20

Hello boys and girls!

I hope that you are all enjoying spending lots of time with your mums and dads over the last week. Wasn’t it nice to be able to enjoy the lovely sunshine last week. I was able to help Mr Butler with a little bit of gardening last week planting some new flowers to brighten up the garden. MY dog’s Nora and Teddy have really enjoyed helping too, though Nora is a little naughty and keeps pulling out the new plants!

I hope that you enjoy the weekly tasks that have been put on the web site and remember to check out the List of useful websites that you might like to use to support your learning Don’t forget to send lots of pictures or updates via the schools Twitter account. Seeing the things that all of you are doing makes me smile. As always make sure you are keeping yourselves safe!

Mrs Butler.

Reading is the key!

Here at Summer Lane we value reading as one of the most important parts of your child's development. The more your child read the more they will learn and it will help build on their vocabulary which helps develop their literacy skills for writing. Please help and support the development of your child's reading by listening to your children read and asking them questions about what they have read and asking them to recall stories or facts they have learnt from what they have read. As part of a whole school reading incentive we will check reading diaries to see if your child has read, the more they read the more points they will earn, so help class 2 become reading champions!

PE

Will be taught on a Monday and Thursday. Please ensure that your child brings both their indoor and outdoor kit. Children should not wear earrings in PE (no plasters) - if your child forgets to remove them they will not be able to participate.

What we will be learning about.

During Spring 2 we will be learning about the topic of Africa. We will be comparing Barnsley to a Maasai village. We will also Learn about the lives of significant people in African including Nelson Mandela. In RE will we be learning about the Christian Easter story.

Home learning

Here are some things that you could so at home:

  • Paint an African picture.
  • Practise telling the time.
  • Play shops or go out with your mum and dad and use real coins to pay a shop keeper.
  • Retell a familiar story.
  • Create your own story based in Africa.
  • Practise key maths skills such as: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
  • Count backwards in 2s, 5s and 10s.
  • Use the internet to find out facts about Africa.
  • Plant a seed and watch it grow!
  • Continue with reading at home- read to a parent/carer, read to a sibling, give your grandparents a telephone call and read them a story.
